Jamie Pritchard's passion for hair and make-up revealed itself when he was little. His talent and character allowed him to quickly progress in his career, from work doing pop promos and photo shoots, to commercials and films. From these, he became Rupert Everett's personal hairdresser on his movies, and Geri Halliwell's personal hairstylist. He began working in the salon when he was 14 every weekend. Then, he left school, did an YTS in hairdressing and he was on his path. At 17 he was cutting hair and doing make-up for family, friends and anyone he could get his hands on. He went to a salon in Liverpool called Glemby, which was a big chain and quite prestigious. They were looking for an Assistant Manager so he lied about his age and got the job! He came to London at 18 and started to work in a Selfridges Glemby Salon. He met some people in the media and started doing pop promos and photo shoots, which escalated into commercials and films. He was working on a film when he met Rupert Everett who asked his to be his personal hairdresser on his movies. Through him, he met countless celebrities whom wanted to work with him too. He did a shoot for Italian Vogue and met Geri Halliwell who asked him to be her personal hairstylist, and has been working with her for about 3 years now, and ended up doing the Spice Girls Reunion World Tour, which was amazing! Working in the film, fashion and music industry has enabled him to evolve and push his boundaries, experiments and learn endlessly about the beauty industry. 'My career is a huge part of me as a person, I feel very lucky and proud of my achievements, especially as it is a very cut throat business. I feel beauty can be ugly sometimes. I love flaws like a boxer's nose or freckles, crooked teeth or frizzy hair. I do not believe there is a perfect formula to achieving a look, everybody is unique. Obviously there are tricks of the trade which can create an illusion of beauty and perfection for the camera, and we do not stop learning as the camera constantly changes as well.' |
